We are pleased to announce the appointment of Mark John Stewart, MBA, ICD.D as industry professor with the McMaster University Master of Communications Management Program – a role that recognizes Mark’s long-term contribution to the program as both an instructor and a strategic advisor.
As an instructor, Mark has led the development and delivery of the MCM’s strategic management curriculum since 2015. As part of Canada’s leading graduate degree for professional communicators and creative professionals, strategic management is a core offering which ties together strategic thinking and analysis, leadership, communication, teamwork, and cross-functional integration as the culminating management course taught in the MCM. Mark’s unique approach to strategy and strategic management incorporates a diversity of for-profit, non-profit, public sector, and international perspectives into a contextual and applied curriculum.
Mark and his company, FlyPrint, have been involved with the MCM program since 2007, when he was an MBA student at the DeGroote School of Business and a teaching assistant to Dr. Terry Flynn. Over the last 10 years, Mark and FlyPrint have served as strategic advisors to the program’s leadership, supporting student recruitment, alumni engagement, and marketing and communications activities.
Mark has been associated with McMaster for more than 20 years – first as an undergraduate student in the Faculty of Humanities and then as an MBA student at the DeGroote School of Business. He has served as president of the DeGroote MBA Association, president of the McMaster Alumni Association, and a member of the University’s Board of Governors. Mark is a visible leader in Hamilton, including current roles as Managing Director of Wentworth Strategy Group, Chair of the Board of Directors of the Bay Area Health Trust, Co-Chair of the Mayor’s Task Force on Transparency, Access and Accountability, Executive Advisor to Empowerment Squared, and a Program Advisory Committee member at Mohawk College.
“In this new role as Industry Professor, Mark will continue to support the growth and expansion of the MCM program and our Executive Education offerings,” said MCM Graduate Director Dr. Terry Flynn. “Whether as our strategic management course instructor, digital and social media advisor, or course developer in our Executive Education program, Mark has been an instrumental part of the advancement of our professional communications management offerings. We look forward to his continued commitment to the MCM program and our Department of Communication Studies & Media Arts.”
